What it is
When the ureter is blocked — by stone, tumour, or scar — percutaneous nephrostomy drains urine directly from the kidney, protecting kidney function and treating infection.

- Fever with rigors (obstructed infection — emergency)
- Reduced urine output

USG, CT, blood tests.

Treatment
Ultrasound- and fluoroscopy-guided placement of a nephrostomy tube — often as a same-day procedure.
