What it is
TACE catheterises the hepatic artery branches feeding a liver tumour, delivers concentrated chemotherapy locally, then embolises to trap it in place. Used for hepatocellular carcinoma and selected liver metastases.

Diagnosis
Multi-phase CT/MRI, tumour markers, biopsy where needed.

Treatment
TACE is one of several tools — resection, ablation, Y-90 radioembolisation, transplant — chosen by a multidisciplinary tumour board.
