What it is

When ERCP fails or isn't feasible, percutaneous biliary drainage relieves jaundice and prevents cholangitis. Can be a bridge to surgery or a definitive palliative measure.

  • Yellow eyes and skin
  • Pale stools, dark urine
  • Fever with rigors (cholangitis — emergency)

USG, MRCP, CT.

Treatment

Percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage under image guidance; internalisation and metallic stenting where appropriate.
