What it is
Most PEs are managed with anticoagulation alone. Intermediate-high-risk or high-risk PE — with right-heart strain, shock, or deterioration — benefits from catheter-directed thrombolysis or mechanical thrombectomy.

- Sudden shortness of breath
- Chest pain, especially with breathing
- Fainting, low blood pressure (severe cases)

Diagnosis
CT pulmonary angiography, echocardiography.

Treatment
Catheter-directed thrombolysis or mechanical thrombectomy for selected intermediate-high or high-risk PE, in coordination with cardiology and ICU.
