What it is
Vascular malformations are present from birth but may declare themselves later. They can be low-flow (venous, lymphatic) or high-flow (AVM), and behave very differently.

Symptoms & signs
- Visible swelling or discolouration
- Pain, warmth, or heaviness
- Bleeding (mucosal or skin lesions)

Diagnosis
MRI is the workhorse; angiography for high-flow lesions.

Treatment
Sclerotherapy for low-flow lesions; catheter embolisation for high-flow AVMs. Treatment is often staged over multiple sessions and coordinated with plastic or ENT surgery where needed.
